Colleen is 2 months old!
I seem to have a couple of minutes as Colleen rests in her vibrating bouncy chair. Tom bought is for her last weekend. It is a bouncy chair instead of a rocker like our other vibrating chair. We alternate between the two. Today it was the bouncy chair that lulled her to sleep. She is still having issues with gas and congestion in her nose and throat, so she won’t lay down on her back for very long, if at all. I’ve been having her sleep on my chest during the night on the couch. That way I can doze and get a little sleep and she seems to sleep better.
Nursing has been going OK. Sometimes I wonder if she has acid reflux though because she finds nursing at times to be painful and cries and she has at least 3-4 hiccup episodes each day (some of the signs of mild acid reflux). I cut out dairy, per the pediatrician’s recommendation (though sometimes I forgot and have a little bit of cheese or milk), but I’m not sure that was the problem. We see the doctor tomorrow, so I can talk to her about all these things. She just is uncomfortable so much of the time. Tom says this is just the way it is, but I feel like there must be more we can do for her.
Last Saturday, Tom went to play golf at Cog Hill with her work group and I had the first experience with Colleen of not having a really hard time consoling her. For about an hour and a half around 7:30pm, she just cried and cried. I walked and walked around the apartment holding her and rocking her in my arms. Finally, we danced to the Chopin CD that my brother gave her and that calmed her enough that I was able to sit in our glider and rock her that way. Then I started singing “Do you know the muffin man?” (of which I only know “do you know the muffin man, the muffin man, the muffin man. do you know the muffin man who lives down drury lane (or words to that effect)–so I sang it over and over and over and over…) and she actually drifted off to sleep partially sitting up in my arms. When she is asleep she looks so content, compared to the furrowed brow she usually has when awake and gassy and congested.
Our friends Rob and Heather were in town last week. They came over Tuesday night and Colleen cried the whole time, but then Friday night we took her over to Phil’s place to see Rob/Heather and Phil/Jon and Barry/Chris and she was more alert and calm.
Oops, she’s awake. Will have to finish this later…
