Playgroup at church

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Tuesday we had our first playgroup at church.  Five toddlers and their moms came.  I consider this a great success for a first day!  It will be every Tuesday and I’m the “host”.  Colleen played well though she isn’t yet really playing with others.  The age range was 11 months to 19 months with 3 boys and 2 girls.  We also took her to the nursery on Sunday.  Tom stayed down with her, but said that she really played independently of him across the room.  This is a huge step for her!

She loves the little slide in the nursery but can’t yet climb up it herself or slide down without help.  But she is really walking.  Now when she falls or trips, she gets back up and walks instead of just staying down and crawling.

Walking is definitely catching on!

Yesterday was the first day Colleen was walking around while holding toys in her hands and not falling over.  She can even throw the toys from a standing position while keeping her balance.  It’s hilarious to watch her since she still has to hold her hands up in the air most of the time to help balance herself.  She is just so proud.  And of course we are proud of her, too!

An update on walking and Oreos

Colleen is definitely walking!  Right now she will only walk to me, but I can get her to do quite a few steps and she always laughs and is so proud of herself.  It’s amazing to watch.  I’m so excited.

On Tuesday night, I was eating an Oreo and Colleen of course wanted some of it, so I took off the top and gave her a little bit of the cream in the center.  Well, she grabbed the cookie from me and walked (yes, actually walked) off laughing hysterically!  Then she walked/slipped/crawled around the room smearing the Oreo all over the floor and couch, but she was laughing so hard, I didn’t have the heart to stop her.  She had her little joke…I wish I could have taped it because it was hilarious.
